Creating floor plans from point clouds in the 3D window
As of Pythagoras 2023, the Vectorise 3D Point Cloud tool in the Point Cloud toolbar can be used to generate floor plans directly from horizontal sections of point clouds. The tool replaces the old vectoriser and provides faster, more accurate results. After vectorising, you can adjust the strength of the resulting lines with a slider in the status bar.

STEPS
In 3D-window
Create a horizontal section
In the Sections toolbar, choose Horizontal section.
Click to define the start of the horizontal section.
Click again to define the height of the section, or enter a Z-value in the Statusbar input field.
Adjust visibility settings
In the Navigation toolbar, choose Top view.
In the Sections toolbar, toggle off Show Section.
In the Screen Settings toolbar, toggle off Dynamic for a stable display.
Vectorise the floor plan
In the Point Cloud toolbar, choose Vectorise 3D Point Cloud.
The vectorising process starts automatically. View progress on the right-hand side of the Statusbar.
To view only the result, go to the Scene toolbar, open the Point Cloud dropdown, and uncheck the point cloud visibility.
Use the Strength slider on the left side of the Statusbar to refine the lines of the vectorised floor plan.
When satisfied, confirm by clicking the green check button.
Check and view the result
To show the point cloud again, go to the Scene toolbar, open the Point Cloud dropdown, and check the point cloud visibility.
RESULT
The vectorised floor plan is displayed in the 2D window and ready for further use, editing, or export.
