How to transfer your Settings to a new computer
Are you planning to switch to a new computer, or is Windows being reinstalled on your current computer?
Here's what you need to consider: transferring your settings and, in some cases, your license.
Your settings
Make a backup of the system files to transfer them.
- Symbol library
- Macro library
- Custom settings
- CDF file
Save the system files from the old computer to a network drive or USB stick, referred to as "FOLDER X" for convenience.
ON THE OLD SYSTEM
- Go to File > Configure...
- Click on the Advanced button.
- In the window, click on the Backup button.
- In the File Explorer window, choose "FOLDER X" and click Save.
If you use the Geocoding module, you need to copy the CDF file to "FOLDER X" via the File Explorer.
Go to Settings > Preferences: Field Memory to find the path under Code Description.
ON THE NEW SYSTEM
- Go to File > Configure...
- Click on the Advanced button.
- In the window, click on the Restore button.
- In the File Explorer window, choose "FOLDER X" and click Open.
If you use the Geocoding module, the CDF file needs to be reloaded. Go to Settings > Preferences > Field Memory and click on the yellow folder icon. Choose "FOLDER X" and click Open.
The CDF file will only be accepted if you use the correct symbol library referenced in the CDF file. Always install your system files first before adding the CDF.
