Create Viewport
The Viewport tool in Pythagoras CAD allows you to create a scaled copy of a selected part of your drawing. This feature is useful for highlighting details in different scales within the same project. Follow this guide to create, copy, and modify a Viewport effectively.
STEPS TO CREATE A VIEWPORT
- Go to the Sheet Manager.
- For the sheet where the viewport needs to be addeduncheck Floating and check Active. Click OK.
- In the menu go to Tools > Create viewport. The cursor is now
.
- Click and drag a rectangle to define the viewport area.
The viewport is automatically added to the active sheet and is linked to the page coordinate system. If you move the plan sheet, the associated viewports will move accordingly.
It is not possible to create a Viewport on a floating sheet.
Editing the Viewport
Moving the Viewport:
Hover the mouse over the center of the viewport until a cross cursor appears. Click and drag to reposition the viewport on the plan sheet.Panning within the Viewport:
Hover over the viewport until the cursor changes to a hand icon. Click and drag within the viewport to reposition the content of the viewport.Resizing the Viewport:
Hover over the edges of the viewport until the cursor changes to a double arrow. Click and drag the edges or corners to adjust the size.Zooming in the Viewport:
Place the cursor over the viewport and hold down the CTRL key. Scroll with the mouse wheel to zoom in or out. Alternatively, right-click and use the Zoom In / Zoom Out options, or adjust the scale through the viewport properties.
Copying or duplicating a Viewport
Duplicate
To create an exact copy of a viewport on the active plan sheet:
- Hover the mouse over the center of the viewport until a cross cursor appears.
- Right-click and select Duplicate.
Copying a Viewport to Another Plan Sheet
To copy a viewport to a different plan sheet:
- Hover the mouse over the center of the viewport until a cross cursor appears.
- Right-click and select Copy to.
- Choose the desired plan sheet for the copied viewport.
The copied viewport will be placed in the page coordinate system of the selected plan sheet. Deleting this viewport does not affect the original on the other plan sheet; they function as separate entities.
Modifying Viewport Properties
To adjust viewport settings:
- Hover the mouse over the center of the viewport until a cross or hand cursor appears.
- Right-click and select Properties.
Adjustable settings include:
View:
Apply a different display than the main drawing if desired. (requires the use of the View manager)
Scale:
Change the scale to enlarge or reduce the content.
Scale Factor:
Determines the size of scale-independent objects. For example, if the drawing has a scale of 1/500 and the viewport is at 1/250, line thicknesses and texts will be twice as large. To correct this, set the scale factor to 200% (standard size) or another desired value.
Level:
Set the display level of the viewport to position it above or below other objects (levels range from -10 to +10).
Frame:
Choose between a rectangle or ellipse shape and set the line thickness, or select None to hide the border (dashed blue line indicates a viewport).
Orientation:
Set a custom angle for the content within the frame or click the Plan Sheet Angle button to match the plan sheet's orientation.
