Modified on Fri, 28 Feb at 2:02 PM

The protection key could not be found (hasp status).

Sometimes, Pythagoras cannot detect the license, resulting in one of the following error codes:

  • Hasp Status 7 – License feature not found
  • Hasp Status 38 – Too many users currently connected (TooManyUsers)
  • Hasp Status 40 – Communication error between local and remote Sentinel License Managers
  • Hasp Status 91 – Identity conflict due to session takeover

Inactive Software License

After a Windows update, the Pythagoras license may stop working. This can happen if Windows removes or modifies certain system functions, preventing the license system from functioning correctly.

Solutions

There are two ways to resolve this issue:

1. Reinstall the HASP Driver

  • Download and install the Sentinel HASP driver, which is required for Pythagoras licensing to function correctly.
  • Download the Sentinel HASP driver here: [Sentinel driver link]

2. Reinstall Pythagoras

  • Uninstall the current version of Pythagoras.
  • Download and install the latest version of Pythagoras.
  • Download Pythagoras here: [Download Pythagoras page]

After reinstalling either the HASP driver or Pythagoras, the license should work correctly again.

hasp status 38

TooManyUsers (Too many users connected)

This error means that all available license seats are currently in use. Another user or computer is still using the license.

Solution:

  • Verify that Pythagoras is properly closed on other computers.
  • Check with colleagues to see if someone else is using the same license and if a seat can be freed.

hasp status 40

RemoteCommErr (Communication Error)

This error occurs with licenses using Cloud authentication, which requires an active internet connection to validate the license.

Solution:

  • Check your internet connection.
  • If you know you will be without internet temporarily, use the Detach & Attach feature to work offline for up to 14 days.

hasp status 91

IdentitySharingViolation (Session takeover by another machine)

This error affects Cloud-based licenses and is usually caused by an unstable internet connection. Another computer has taken over the active license session.
