Clip or clean point clouds in the 3D window

The 3D window includes lasso and eraser clipping tools, similar to those in the 2D window. These options in the Point Cloud toolbar let you remove unwanted parts of a point cloud directly in 3D.

Quickly remove a defined region with the Lasso tool

Use this when you want to cut away larger blocks of data.

  1. Open the 3D-window.

  2. In the Point Cloud toolbar, select Lasso.

  3. Draw a boundary line around the points you want to clip.

Precise, brush-like control with the Eraser tool

Use this for detailed cleanup or removing smaller artefacts.

  1. Open the 3D-window.

  2. In the Point Cloud toolbar, select Eraser.

  3. Click and drag on the point cloud to erase specific parts.

Undo a clipping

  1. Right-click on the point cloud.

  2. In the context menu, select Undo all clippings.

  3. All clipped points become visible again.

Note: Clipped points are only recoverable until the drawing is saved. After saving, the deletions are permanent. Duplicate your point cloud before major editing if you want to keep the original data.
