How to precisely position a section on point clouds

Accurately positioning the clip box on a point cloud is essential for creating precise sections. This guide will walk you through the steps to ensure your clip box is correctly aligned, enhancing the accuracy and detail of your sections.




STEPS

1. Load your point cloud data and open the 3D window.

2. Select the desired Section tool: Clip box, Vertical section or Horizontal section.

3. Define the start of the clip box

  • Click once in the drawing to define the starting point of the clip box.
  • For precision you can adjust the X, Y, Z coordinates of the starting point in the status bar (bottom left corner of the screen).
  • Tap on ENTER to confirm the position of the starting point.

4. Define the dimensions of the clip box (defining the length, width, height of the section box)

  • For precision you can manually enter absolute L, W and H values of the section box in the status bar (bottom left corner of the screen).
  • or First move the cursor in a X, Y or Z direction and then hold Ctrl to align the direction of the clip box with the choosen axis.
  • or Snap to objects other than the points of the point cloud.
  • Tap on ENTER to confirm the size of the section box.


By following these steps, you can create a clip box that is precisely positioned and has the desired dimensions, ensuring accurate and detailed sections of your point cloud data.
