How to create a volume report

Learn how to generate a detailed report based on terrain models. This article guides you through the steps to create, customize and export a Volume Calculation Report — whether you want to place it in your drawing, save it as a file or copy it for use in another document.

Calculate the volume

To generate a Volume Calculation Report you must first go to DTM > Volumes...
(If you have no polygons selected to define the area you are asked to confirm your choice: yes/no).

In the window Volume Calculation

  1. Choose which difference you want to calculate
  2. Choose which method you want to use for your calculation
  3. Click on the Calculate button.
  4. After the calculation, click the Export button.

The window Volume Calculation Report opens.

By default the window contains three tabs: Tabular, Summary and Details.

Customize the report

Use the plus/minus icons (top left) to:

  • Remove active tab out of the report (minus) Remove tabs you don't need

  • Add more tabs (plus) Re-add tabs you want to include

You can also:

  • Reorder columns

  • Sort ascending/descending

  • Modify appearance via the Edit text attributes button

If you want to keep the current settings as the default, click the disk icon  in the top-right corner of the dialog box and select Save layout of the report.

Choose export destination

When the report is ready, choose one of the following options for Export to:

  • Drawing   Inserts the report on the Page. Move with Ctrl+M, double-click to edit in the Rich Text Editor

  • File   Save the report in formats like RTF, HTML, CSV (comma, semicolon, or tab-separated)

  • Clipboard   Useful to paste the result into another document (e.g. Word), especially when combining multiple reports

Click on the Close button to return.

TIPS

  • It’s recommended to use polygons to define the volume area accurately

  • Reports inserted into the drawing can still be edited or moved later

  • Use the clipboard option if you want to combine multiple reports in Word or Excel
