Exporting a Coordinate List (CSV/TXT) for Field Layout

Field equipment such as Trimble, Leica, or Topcon often works with simple point lists in CSV or TXT format, containing coordinates and optionally a point code.

Pythagoras makes it easy to generate such a list based on selected points in your drawing.

When should you use this?

  • For field layout using GPS or total stations

  • To export data for Trimble Access, Leica Captivate, or similar systems

  • To generate a list containing only X, Y, Z, and code

Step-by-step

Export a coordinate list

  1. Select the objects you want to export (usually points with height)

  2. Go to File > Export > Coordinate List...

  3. Check the coordinate system:

    • If incorrect, click Cancel. Open the Control Panel and set the correct active coordinate system.

  4. Enter a file name and choose where to save the file

  5. Choose the desired file format:

    • .CSV

    • .TXT

    • Others (depending on device compatibility)

Some field equipment requires comma-separated files (CSV), others require semicolon- or tab-separated TXT files. Make sure to select the correct delimiter format.

RESULT

The exported file will typically contain one line per point:

point_number X Y Z code(Comment)

Example:

1 125847.394 194828.225 12.556 Building_Corner
2 125851.003 194832.774 12.480 Road_Edge
3 125855.641 194827.913 12.520 Road_Edge
