Object Projection on Terrain Models or Point Clouds

Modified on Tue, 21 Mar, 2023 at 12:26 PM

Introduction:

Pythagoras is able to project points and/or lines on terrain models or point clouds.

A projected point will get the height of the terrain model or point cloud at that XY position.

A projected line will be divided in segments:

  • When projecting onto a DTM the segments will follow the sides of the triangles in the model.
  • When projecting onto a point cloud, the segments will get a fixed length depending on the resolution of the point cloud.

A line will become a polyline, a polyline will stay a polyline. All the endpoints of the different segments will get the height of the DTM or of the point cloud at that XY position.

These new tools work based on selection. Therefore, before you are able to project, you need to select all objects that you wish to project.

After selection, the tool can be activated by right click and selecting: "Edit - Project on Point Cloud/DTM - Name of Point Cloud/DTM"
