Find and manage duplicates or similar objects

Use the Find dialog box in Pythagoras to detect duplicate points, overlapping lines, or objects with the same attributes. This helps clean up imported data and maintain an accurate drawing.

Find overlapping points or lines

Tip: If Snap Info is enabled, you can click directly in the drawing to cycle through and select overlapping objects. This is useful for quick checks without running a full search.

1. Go to Edit > Find & Select > New or press Ctrl+F.

2. In the Find dialog box, open the Geo attributes tab.

To find overlapping or duplicate points

     • Select the option Overlapping points

     • Choose whether to search All points, Lowest points, or Highest points.

     • Within: sets the tolerance distance for detecting duplicates. Points closer than this distance are considered overlapping. Increasing the value helps detect near-duplicates.

  To find overlapping lines

     • Enable the option to Overlapping lines.

3. Click Search to find overlapping or identical points.

4. The number of found objects appears at the bottom of the dialog.

Find similar objects by basing the search on properties of selected objects

You can now select any object and search for similar objects with the Find dialog box.

  1. Select any object in your drawing.

  2. Right-click and choose Edit > Find with same attributes...

  3. The Find dialog box opens automatically, with all identifiable attributes of the selected object already filled in (for example: layer, color, line type, point code).

  4. Adjust attributes if needed and click Search.

The Find dialog box will appear and automatically fill in all the attributes that can be recognized from the selected object. If you then search, you'll have a list of all similar objects in the drawing.

After searching: view, select, or refine results

After pressing Search, the number of found objects appears at the bottom of the dialog.

Select-button: highlights the found objects in the drawing.

  • New selection replaces any existing selection.

  • Add to selection adds them to your current selection.

  • Remove from selection deselects them.

  • Select within selection refines an existing selection.

Object list-button: opens a table view of all found objects.

  • Each object type has its own tab.

  • Sort by column headers.

  • Select rows with Ctrl or Shift, then click New selection to return to the drawing with only those objects selected.

  • To remove them, use Edit > Delete in the drawing.

RESULT

You can locate, review, and clean up duplicate or matching objects quickly, either in the drawing or through the Object list, keeping your data organized and accurate.
