Grouping objects

Temporarily bundle objects for an operation

Groups in Pythagoras are ideal for temporary operations on multiple objects from different layers at once, without permanently combining them. A group acts as a bundle: if you select one object, the entire group is automatically selected. Perfect when you want to move, copy, or edit points, lines, or symbols together.

Use groups for temporary workflows or visual organization. If you want to manage objects together permanently, layers are the better choice.

Creating a group

  1. Select the objects you want to group (multiple points, lines, text, symbols, etc.).

  2. Go to the Edit menu > Group.

  3. The selected objects are now treated as a group.

Note: Visually, there is no difference, but if you click one object, the entire group will be selected.

Ungrouping

  1. Select an object within the group.

  2. Go to Edit > Ungroup.

  3. The objects can now be edited individually again.

TIPS

  • Groups are useful for temporary operations such as moving a group of symbols or aligning multiple text labels.

  • You can combine groups with layers to make the workflow even more efficient.

  • Want to quickly select all objects from a group afterwards? Use Search by object types > Groups (menu Edit > Find & Select > New (Ctrl+F).
