Scaling objects in Pythagoras

Objects in Pythagoras can be enlarged or reduced in several ways by means of a scale factor.
This article distinguishes two types of scaling operations:

  • Symmetrical scaling: equal scale in X- and Y-direction

  • Asymmetrical scaling: different scale in X- and Y-direction (only possible for Symbols and Images)

Below you will find the correct procedure for each method.

Symmetrical scaling - via scale factor (%)

Quickly enlarge or reduce a selection with a percentage. You apply one scale factor, whereby the object is proportionally enlarged or reduced in both X- and Y-direction.

A. Geometry

PROCEDURE Geometry selection

  1. Select what you want to scale.

  2. Copy or cut your selection.

  3. Menu Edit > Paste Special.

  4. Enter a percentage (e.g. 200 = 200% = 2x larger) at Scale clipboard data.

  5. Click OK.

  6. The geometry is placed scaled into the drawing.

B. Symbols, Text, Images, Line Styles, Patterns

PROCEDURE Scaling of Symbol, Text, Image, Line Style, Pattern

Note: Scaling only works on library styles, not on the default styles.

  1. Select the object(s) you want to scale.

  2. Go to Format > Scale > Symbol... (or the corresponding object type).

  3. Enter a scale factor:

    • Enlarge: e.g. 125%

    • Reduce: e.g. 50%

    • Mirror: negative value, e.g. -100%

  4. Relative scaling (optional):

    • Checked → scale relative to current size.

    • Unchecked → scale relative to original size.

  5. Set zoom:

    • 0 (left) → symbol always stays the same size on screen (zoom-independent).

    • 100 (right) → symbol scales along with the drawing (keeps real dimensions).

  6. Confirm with OK.

Instead of via the menu, you can also directly adjust the scale factor and zoom through Edit properties.

Asymmetrical scaling

Asymmetrical scaling (different scale in X and Y) is only available for symbols and images.

PROCEDURE

  1. Select a symbol or image.

  2. Go to Format > Scale > Symbol or Image or via Edit properties.

  3. For the setting options, see above under Symmetrical scaling.
