Add a legend to your page layout
With the Bonus Tools you can automatically add a clear legend to your page layout. The legend contains all symbols, line styles and polygon patterns used in the drawing, regardless of layer visibility. You can choose how the legend items are named and on which layer the legend is placed.
The legend is always created in page coordinates, making it suitable for plan sheets and printouts.
Make sure the Bonus Tools macro is installed: How to install macro: Bonus tools
Verify that Bonus Tools is set as the active macro.
STEPS
Configure legend settings
Go to Bonus Tools > Symbol tools > Settings legend.
Under Naming, choose how the legend items are displayed:
Groupname – Symbolname: shows both the symbol group and symbol name
Symbolname: shows only the symbol name
Layername: uses the layer name instead of the symbol name
Using Add default symbols, you can specify whether default styles are included in the legend.
Enabled: Used default point styles, line styles, and polygon styles are included in the legend.
Disabled: Only used library styles (document library and system library) are included in the legend.
In Layer, select or create the layer on which the legend will be created.
Click OK to confirm the settings.
Text size
The legend uses the current text size set in the Standard Settings toolbar. Set the desired text size before creating the legend.
NOTE: The legend is generated based on all layers in the drawing. Styles used on hidden layers are also included.
Create the legend
Go to Bonus Tools > Symbol tools > Create legend.
The legend is automatically created in Page coordinates.
Used point styles (symbols), line styles and polygon patterns from the document library and system library are included. If Add default symbols is enabled, used default point styles, line styles and polygon styles from Pythagoras are also included.
Edit the legend
Switch the control panel to Page coordinates.
Select the legend.
Edit position, text or scale as needed, just like any other page object.
RESULT
The drawing contains an automatically generated, consistent legend with all used symbols, line styles and patterns, correctly placed in page coordinates and ready for use on plan sheets or printouts.
The legend is created once as CAD objects in page coordinates. It is not updated automatically when the drawing, used styles or layer visibility changes.
